We are currently seeking a Refrigeration Mechanic to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 15/13 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).

Reporting to the Camps Maintenance Supervisor, the main purpose of this position is to perform the functions of a Refrigeration Mechanic in a safe and environmentally friendly manner and quality workmanship standards are maintained, all for the best value. Ensure adherence to statutory requirements as a minimum standard.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Fault Finding, Diagnosis and repairs, Breakdown Maintenance, Preventative maintenance.
  • Develop maintenance strategies to improve reliability.
  • Demonstrated PLC fault finding.
  • General Planned Maintenance work including maintenance of fixed plant equipment including Cam Refer units, cool rooms, site air conditioner unit’s kitchen appliances.
  • Statutory Compliance Testing.
  • Working on “Motors and Control on air conditioners and freezer units.
  • Lightning and Power in camp rooms.
  • Install refrigeration and air conditioner systems and execute fault finding initiatives to repair and ensure minimal disruption to site operations.
  • Adhere to all OH&S and standard work procedures.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards within personal work area.
  • Achieve maximum levels of machine uptime through the efficient and effective maintenance of plant and equipment and project work associated with new installations, the manufacture of fixtures and automotive equipment.
  • Assisting in major projects and coordinating small projects.
  • Prompt action and close out of safety issues affecting the workplace.
  • Planning and prioritising maintenance work.
  • Maintaining spare parts stores.
  • Reporting mechanical activities to the Camp Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Ensuring to carry out other operational tasks as required.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Managing effective use of available resources, including own time, in support of the delivery of the Maintenance tasks.

People accountabilities

  • Participating in training provided by the business.
  • Ensure you report any undesired events, unsafe practices or near misses to your direct supervisor immediately.
  • Complying with established OH&S policies and practices
  • Taking responsibility for reporting incidents, including any injury or near miss to the OH&S Department and Safety Committee in a timely manner
  • Complying with established environmentally sustainable measures to not adversely impact on   the natural fauna, flora, freshwater resources, and marine life within the bounds of Simberi Island.
  • Ensuring you are at work on time and fit for work

We would love to hear from you if you have​:

Essential

  • Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
  • Refrigeration experience in an industrial, construction or mining environment 3 – 5 years
  • Must have a Trade Certificate in Refrigeration Mechanic
  • Experience with maintaining or repairing Air Conditioning units, Freezer units, washing machine & dryers.
  • Experience in Camps Maintenance.
  • Understand relevant engineering standards and associated procedures

 Desirable

  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong oral, written and visual communication skills
