We are currently seeking a Travel Officer to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Travel Supervisor, the Travel Officer is primarily responsible for assisting the Travel and Hotel bookings along with Logistical duties including activities pertaining to the Company’s business requirements.
The Opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Daily planning schedules creating work orders ordering parts external and internal.
- Undertake arrangement and booking of all SGCL employees, contractor and visitor flights including local and international charters, local and international airlines as well as any other mode of transport as directed.
- Undertake arrangement and booking of all necessary and applicable accommodation locally and internationally as required.
- Issuing purchase orders to airflight companies and hotels.
- Prepare and distribute, in a timely fashion, all necessary itineraries for flights and accommodation in relation to the above.
- Identifies and enforces corporate travel policies and procedures to improve workflow efficiency and reduce cost savings in overall operation.
- Determines best booking procedure based on cost savings and communicates itinerary and instructions to senior staff and employees.
- Prepare and filing of all flight related manifests, consignment notes and flight documentation.
- Preparation and distribution of all flight and charter schedules.
- Responsible for transporting staff to and from Mine and Airport.
- Loading/unloading, pick up and transport of all personnel, baggage, and freight to and from the Simberi accommodation camp and Simberi airstrip.
- All other travel and accommodation related work as directed.
- Assist with all other logistics and warehouse work as directed.
- Assisting pilots with aircraft refuelling.
Scheduling accountabilities
- Ensuring to undertake appropriate training and development, so they are skilled efficiently to perform allocated duties.
- Overview, provide direction and act as a technical reference point and mentor for staff while ensuring work outputs are in line with strategic and business plans.
- Promote and adhere to Occupational Health and Safety Policy and Procedures through consistently demonstrating and encouraging safe work practices

Essential
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara’s Values
- Attained Grade 12 Certificate but not essential.
- Previous experience working in the mining industry.
- Must have gained 3 years’ experience in the travel industry.
- Experience dealing with FIFO Rosters will be considered an advantage.
- Licensed and experienced light vehicle (LV Class) driver.
- Working knowledge of travel policies and procedures.
- Basis knowledge of IATA guidelines to travel.
- Excellent PC skills including word processing, spreadsheet applications and email functions.
- Excellent Organization and Planning Skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills including oral and written communication.
- Good phone manner
- Physically fit and capable of lifting 20kg baggage.
- Willingness to work staggered shift hours.
Desirable
- A valid PNG Driver’s License
