We are currently seeking 2x ERT Officers to join our team, permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo, or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply).
This position shall report directly to the ERT Captain and is responsible for assisting in day-to-day operation and ensuring appropriate and safe responses to fire and emergency response incidents. This position also has responsibilities to maintain preparedness and responsiveness to attend to all emergency calls and provide assistance required by all workgroups in Simberi operation.
Everyone at St Barbara Limited is required to understand and act in accordance with St Barbara’s values and policies and meet all relevant internal and external compliance obligations. The role incumbent and manager will identify and review the specific compliance requirements of the role.
The Opportunity
Technical Accountabilities
- Perform duties in a safe and professional manner.
- Performing emergency response roles and responsibilities in a safe and professional manner.
- Assist Supervisor in reviewing and coordinating scheduled inspection and servicing on critical fire equipment and rectifying unserviceable equipment immediately.
- Conduct planned weekly inspection and servicing of critical emergency response equipment.
- Conduct daily pre-start checks on emergency response vehicles and equipment.
- Provide basic fire and emergency response trainings site wide.
- Ensure periodical inspection and maintenance on fire protection and detection installation are serviceable.
- Carry out safety workplace inspection and participate in safety programs.
- Assess, review and provide rescue plans for all critical shutdown work.
- Directly participate in all ER upskill and endurance trainings.
- Always maintain dressing code whilst on duty.
- Maintain on call duties.

Essential
- Behaviour must be aligned with St Barbara’s Values
- Holds a Certificate III in Mine Emergency Response and Rescue or equivalent extractive industry emergency response qualification
- Skilled in scene assessment, including evaluation of severity, potential impact, safety concerns, and response requirements based on initial information from the first person on scene
- Proven ability to receive, transmit, and interpret information accurately to maintain situational awareness and ensure effective communication within the Emergency Response Team
- Competent in firefighting and emergency response procedures
- Holds a valid Senior First Aid Certificate or equivalent
- ·Minimum 5 years of experience in Emergency Response operations
- Experienced in Emergency Response and Safety Training
- Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Desirable
- Current PNG Driving License – Class 6
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and related applications would be an advantage
