We are currently seeking a Mining Coordinator to join our team. permanent full-time position at our Simberi Operation. Your work location is Papua New Guinea, working a 21/14 Roster from Kavieng, Rabaul, Port Moresby, Lae, Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta, Hoskins, Wewak, Vanimo or Tabar group of Islands. Reporting to the Mining Superintendent, the Mining Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and supporting daily mining operations to ensure activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with production targets and operational plans. The role works closely with Supervisors, Operators, and Contractors to optimise equipment utilisation, monitor operational performance, coordinate resources, and ensure compliance with company procedures, safety standards, and environmental requirements. The Mining Coordinator also assists in workforce planning, reporting, communication between departments, and resolving operational issues to support continuous improvement and the achievement of mining objectives.

The role incumbent and manager will identify and review the specific compliance requirements of the role.

The opportunity

Technical Accountabilities

  • Contributing to ensuring the health and safety of all personnel in the Mining Department.
  • Providing leadership and coaching of the Mining team.
  • Providing improvements to safe production performance.
  • Providing guidance to the mining teams to enable them to achieve productivity and safety targets.
  • Ensuring all crew members are aware of their specific shift targets.
  • Ensuring the Mining Department is compliant with Critical Risk Audit.
  • Overseeing the operation of equipment as required to ensure operations are carried out in a safe and efficient way according to all relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Assisting in the supervision of daily open pit mining and training activities with the efficient utilisation of equipment and personnel.
  • Performing daily safety and maintenance checks as required.
  • Monitoring and maintaining compliance with Company safe operating procedures.
  • Communicating Company Policies to surface mine employees.
  • Communicating employee concerns to Senior Management.
  • Providing employees with advice and leadership on personal matters.
  • Recommending improvements to safe operating procedures.
  • Assisting with Accident Investigations and incidents and be familiar with formulating written accident reports.
  • Participating and promoting Safety activities and inspections.
  • Assigning daily work tasks and record performance.

Scheduling accountabilities

  • Coaching and mentoring of operational and technical teams regarding task and priority scheduling to optimise efficiency.
  • Ensuring that the Mining Department develops and uses effective plans that derive from and support the Company and site plans.

People Accountabilities

  • Ensuring own performance meets all role requirements.
  • Building and developing an effective Mining Department by providing recommendations on individuals and teams for training and development

  • At least 10 years’ relevant experience in open Pit Mining as an operator of multiple equipment types
  • Strong ability to work effectively within a team
  • Strong communication skills, including communicating with people from different backgrounds and cultures
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines on multiple tasks
  • High level of enthusiasm for the work with high performance goals
  • Commercial acumen relevant to the role

Desirable

  • Relevant resources industry work experience
