Crane Operator
The Role
Reporting to the Plant Crane Supervisor; the Crane Operator is responsible for a non- slew crane (franna Mac- 25) and a mobile slew crane (below & above 100 Tonnes) to move, lift and position materials at site.

This is a FIFO position; the roster is a 15/13 roster. Point of Hire is restricted to Kavieng/Rabaul/Port Moresby/Lae/Mt Hagen, Buka, Madang, Goroka, Alotau, Wapenamanda, Popondetta & Hoskins or Tabar group of Islands. (Locals are encouraged to apply)
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring safe work practices, own health and safety and all other workers by identifying hazards and ensuring issues and risks are reported and addressed.
- Performing daily pre & post prestart checks.
- Understanding load chart and executing the job
- Cleaning the maintaining the machine
- Operating each specific crane as per OEM standards
- Inspecting the crane to ensure its safety.
- Set up mobile slew crane as per OEM standards.
- Rigging duties as required
- Compilation and adherence to JHA’s, SWP, SOP and Lift Plans
- Perform routine crane maintenance work such as cleaning and lubricating cranes as required.
Qualifications, skills, and experience required:
- Behaviour consistent with St Barbara Values
- Minimum grade 10 certificate
- Current unrestricted PNG Driver Licence class 7.
- Certificate to perform dogging CPCCLDG3001A or RIIHAN208D.
- Certificate to operate non- slew (franna) crane TLILIC3006A or RIIHAN212D.
- Certificate to operate mobile slew crane up to 100 tonne TLILIC0014 or RIIHAN304D.
- Certificate to operate mobile slew crane over 100 tonnes TLILI4011A.
- Minimum 5 years industry experience.
- Basic knowledge of hydraulic systems on cranes.
- Strong ability to work effectively within a team.
- Ability to operate and control equipment.
- Prepared to work out of hours as required.
- Good attention to detail.
