Make Real Impact. Lead with Autonomy. Shape Culture at Scale.

We're looking for a People & Culture Business Partner to step into an evolving People & Culture team. This is not a role where you'll be handed a playbook and told to follow it; instead, you'll be trusted to write it. If you've spent 5+ years earning your stripes in employee relations, industrial relations and diverse people matters, and you're ready to operate with real autonomy, minimal oversight and have real impact, this is your next move.

Who You Are

You're someone who:

  • Has hands-on experience resolving employee relations and industrial relations matters, including investigations, disciplinary processes, grievances, and workplace conflict.
  • You thrive in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, navigating shifting priorities with confidence and minimal supervision.
  • Knows the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards and enterprise agreements and can apply them with sound judgement.
  • Brings industry knowledge from multi-faceted environments such as construction, engineering, infrastructure or a related trade-based sector, with a solid understanding of what it takes to support trade, operational and site-based workforces.
  • Can walk into a room with a senior leader and earn trust quickly by providing credible, practical advice that is grounded in experience.
  • Is a genuine change maker, someone who looks at automation, innovation and new technologies.
  • Is resilient, adaptable and commercially switched-on, with the composure to manage complex, sensitive matters independently.

What Success Looks Like

  • Leaders across the business trust you as their first call for all people matters.
  • ER and IR matters are handled with fairness and speed, protecting the business while treating people with respect.
  • You drive and execute talent reviews, succession planning and engagement initiatives that deliver real commercial value to senior leadership.
  • You take initiative and leave things better than you found them, building new processes, frameworks, systems or ideas where they're needed.

What You'll Own

Employee & Industrial Relations

  • Lead investigations, disciplinary processes, grievances and workplace conflict resolution.
  • Provide advice to all leaders on ER/IR risk, with legally grounded recommendations.

Talent, Performance & Organisational Development

  • Drive engagement surveys, talent reviews and succession planning from strategy through to execution.
  • Partner with leaders on performance management, workforce planning and organisational development initiatives.

Data, Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare workforce metrics, dashboards and insights with the ability to leverage data to influence and make decisions

 Systems, Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Help strengthen our systems and processes by bringing experience with HR technology, SharePoint and transformation initiatives.
  • Bring structure and consistency to how people data, case files and documentation are managed by building the foundations for a function that scales.

People Projects

  • Fully own and execute on people projects with the autonomy to manage the full process from design to implementation.

What You Bring

  • 5-10+ years' experience in HR, People & Culture or Business Partnering
  • Confidence to operate independently, with minimal supervision, advising leaders at every level of seniority.
  • Ideally, you bring strong experience in organisational transformation, particularly within a high-growth environment.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Modern Awards, the Fair Work Act and enterprise agreements.
  • Experience in ER/IR and conflict resolution is essential
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills at all levels.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

Why You'll Love It Here

You'll join an organisation with nearly 70 years of history and exposure to high-value projects across construction, engineering, infrastructure, rail, services, commercial, and healthcare, which means no two weeks look the same. This is an exciting and transformative period for Star Group. We're scaling fast, and our People & Culture function needs to grow with us. You'll work closely with our People & Culture Leader and senior leaders across the business, with real autonomy to shape how this function operates.

We back that with benefits that support the way you work and live:

  • RDOs to give you real work-life balance alongside a demanding, high-impact role.
  • Flexible work arrangements and hybrid working opportunities.
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP) — confidential support for you and your family, whenever you need it.
  • Novated leasing benefits to support your lifestyle and financial goals.
  • Professional growth opportunities through defined career pathways and leadership development initiatives.
  • Access to our organisation-wide mentoring program.
  • Recognition and reward programs.

If you're looking for a role where you can grow, develop, and make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you. Apply today.

Star Group believes in diversity and is committed to providing equal employment opportunities to all applicants. We welcome applicants from all walks of life, including various socio-economic, cultural, LGBTIQ+, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander backgrounds.
