Judo Australia is the National Sporting Organisation responsible for the governance, development, and promotion of judo across Australia.

The organisation is aligned with the Australian Sports Commission Play Well Strategy and is focused on sustainable participation growth, high performance pathways, and the delivery of safe, inclusive, and values-based sporting environments.


The Role

Judo Australia is seeking expressions of interest from suitably qualified individuals for appointment as a Non-Executive Director (Casual Vacancy).

The successful candidate will be appointed by the Board to fill a casual vacancy until the 2026 Annual General Meeting (October 2026), in accordance with the Judo Australia Constitution.

The Board is responsible for the strategic direction, governance, and oversight of Judo Australia, including financial performance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.

This appointment is to a skills-based Board, comprising a mix of elected and appointed Directors.

Directors are expected to:

  • Contribute to the strategic direction and long-term sustainability of the organisation
  • Provide independent judgement and constructive challenge
  • Ensure strong governance, compliance, and risk oversight
  • Support effective stakeholder engagement, including with members, government, and partners.


Criteria

The Board is seeking candidates who can complement its current skills matrix.

Priority areas for this appointment are:

  • Corporate communications, media, and stakeholder engagement  
  • Participation growth and community sport development

Desirable experience:

  • Governance or Board experience (corporate, government, or not-for-profit)
  • Experience in a national sporting organisation or complex member-based organisation
  • Qualifications such as AICD or equivalent governance training

Experience in judo or sport is beneficial but not essential.
