Swimming Australia Limited (SA) is the peak governing body of Australia’s most successful Olympic and Paralympic sport. With almost 80,000 registered members in 1,000 clubs and more than 5 million active swimmers nationwide, swimming is Australia’s largest participation sport. As the national governing body for the sport, we have a clear purpose: Inspire Australia Through Swimming. 


The Role

Swimming Australia Limited is seeking an Appointed Director to join its Board for a three (3) year term (subject to renewal) and on a voluntary basis. Following a skills gap analysis, we aim to enhance our governance capabilities with candidates who bring strong leadership experience and expertise in key strategic areas. 


Essential Criteria

Candidates must demonstrate:

  • Experience as a Non-Executive Director, preferably with Chair experience;
  • Strong board governance and board leadership capability;
  • Senior executive leadership experience, including CEO or senior executive roles;
  • Proven commercial acumen and experience forming or overseeing commercial partnerships, particularly within consumer-facing organisations;
  • Ability to provide strategic governance oversight and contribute to organisational performance through executive accountability;
  • Capability to strengthen Swimming Australia’s Board succession pipeline; and
  • Knowledge of the Australian Sporting Landscape and / or Swimming including an understanding of the complexities of sport, federated models and their governance.
