About us

American Football Australia (AFA) is the governing body responsible for American Football development across the country, for both tackle and flag football.

AFA is recognised by both the Australian Sports Commission (ASC) in Australia and by the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) internationally as the peak body for the sport in Australia.

The role

Following the adoption of the new American Football Australia Constitution, the Board is inviting nominations for the position of Independent Chair of the newly established Nominations Committee.

This is an important governance appointment that will provide independent leadership to the Nominations Committee and support the Board in maintaining a transparent, merit-based and skills-focused approach to Board and committee appointments.

The Independent Chair will be responsible for leading the Committee in accordance with the AFA Constitution and the Committee Charter, facilitating objective and impartial decision-making, and ensuring the Committee fulfils its responsibilities.

American Football Australia is committed to creating safe, welcoming and inclusive sporting environments that are accessible, equitable and representative of the communities we serve. We encourage applications from suitably qualified individuals with diverse backgrounds, experiences and perspectives.

How to apply

To apply, please submit an application to secretary@americanfootball.org.au, including:

  • A cover letter outlining your relevant experience and addressing your suitability for the role.
  • A current curriculum vitae (maximum two pages).

Prospective applicants are encouraged to review the Position Description and Nominations Committee Charter on this page, which outline the key responsibilities of this role.
