About us

Little Athletics Queensland (LAQ) is the peak body for Little Athletics in Queensland, supporting 84 volunteer-run Centres and more than 17,000 registered athletes across the state. Our purpose is to develop children of all abilities through athletics, promoting Family, Fun and Fitness.

About the role

LAQ is establishing a Nominations Committee, an advisory committee of the Board, and is seeking three (3) individuals with board or governance experience to serve as its inaugural members.

The Committee assists the Board by reviewing, advising and making recommendations on:

  • board composition, size and the time commitments expected of directors
  • a skills and competencies matrix for the Board
  • identification and recommendation of suitable candidates for Board appointment
  • board succession planning
  • assessment of nominations from individuals seeking appointment to the Board.

Selection criteria

  • Demonstrated board or governance experience (company, government or not-for-profit)
  • Sound judgement, discretion and integrity
  • An understanding of good governance practice, including skills matrices and succession planning
  • A commitment to community sport; a connection to Little Athletics is highly regarded
  • Applicants cannot be current directors of the LAQ Board.

Please note the composition requirements of the Committee: at least two of the three members must be members of the Association, no more than two members may come from the same Centre, and the Committee must include at least one male and one female.

Commitment

This is a voluntary position with a two-year term. The Committee meets as scheduled by the Board and as the Chair considers necessary.
