The opportunity

We currently have an opportunity for a Workshop Manager to join SkyBus and lead a team of Mechanics, Trades Assistants and other team members who will be responsible for all maintenance and repairs on our heavy commercial fleet.

SkyBus is about to embark on an electrification journey, and this role will be key to helping us set up our workshop for success in introducing and maintaining these new vehicles and working at the forefront of new technology and depot design, as we work towards our ESG target of a 100% zero emissions fleet by 2035.

This role is hands on and responsible for the day-to-day management of the team and utilisation, repair, and maintenance of the vehicle fleet to ensure we have reliable buses on the network.

As Workshop Manager, you will play a key role in maintaining the iconic SkyBus brand and fleet, with ownership over driving our high fleet presentation standards across the business. You will also assist with the transition to zero emission buses at SkyBus, as Kinetic works towards a 100 per cent Battery Electric Bus (BEB) fleet by 2035.


You will be involved in

  • The Workshop Manager is the most senior Workshop role at the depot. You will need to have experience: setting targets for people to work towards; analysing and improving the workshop’s performance; and making sure that things are running smoothly.
  • Oversee and conduct preventative vehicle maintenance to ensure that vehicles are maintained to an efficient level and available for our operational needs.
  • Oversee and undertake maintenance and repair work on engines, transmissions, rectify defects / faults in a timely manner.

The boxes you'll tick

  • Be a qualified and experienced diesel mechanic and hold a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology (or equivalent qualification)
  • Proven leadership and supervisory ability in managing a team of people, influencing and creating a positive culture.
  • A balanced fix right first time approach repair approach with an keen eye for foreseeable wear patterns and workmanship quality
  • Proven ability to identify maintenance countermeasures for predictable or emerging in service failures  
  • Demonstrated problem solving capability in a dynamic and fast paced transport environment
  • Having a Heavy Rigid (HR) licence is preferred or happy to obtain one.
  • Strong computer literacy, including the ability to learn our asset management system (ManagerPlus) and other software to deliver an efficient and effective service to our business.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Excellent planning and organisational ability – including the ability to perform under pressure and meet deadlines.
