Senior Project Engineer SMP

SIMPEC have been awarded the main procurement and construction contract for the residue filtration stage 2 project at Alcoa's Pinjarra Alumina Refinery, which will involve delivering infrastructure and services to increase processing capacity to convert bauxite residue into filter cake.

We are currently seeking a Senior SMP Project engineer to commence in the new year. Initially, you will be working from our head office (Applecross) until mobilisation to site, where you will be based for the remainder of the project.

Roster: Monday – Friday (Some Saturdays may be required) DIDO Daily.

The Role:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to take a pivotal leadership role within the site and project delivery team. This position is suited to someone with demonstrated contractor-side construction experience, who can operate seamlessly between hands-on site execution and project leadership.

The role requires close alignment with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, and site leadership to drive safe, efficient, and predictable delivery. The successful candidate will lead and mentor a team of engineers, providing clear technical direction, structured planning, and strong commercial awareness across their work scope.

This is a hands-on, site-based role requiring sound judgment, calm decision-making and the ability to translate design intent and program requirements into practical, buildable outcomes. This role is ideally suited to a high-performing Senior Project Engineer looking to take the next step toward a future Project Management position.

About You:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar.
• Minimum 10+ Years experience in a similar role within Mining Construction in Australia involving structural steel erection, mechanical and piping installation
• Contractor side experience in medium to large scale ($50m plus) SMP construction projects is essential
• Ability to mentor, lead and guide junior engineers and provide structure relating to the planning and delivery of the works under contract
• Well-developed interpersonal, influencing and communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to build positive working relationships at all levels. 
• Proficiency in modelling and drawing software such as Naviswork Simulate, MS Project and/or Bluebeam.
• Experienced in managing, raising, and responding to RFI’s and TQ’s.
• Demonstrated problem solving skills, attention to detail and the ability to perform under pressure in dynamic environments
• Appropriate commercial acumen understanding the scope of work
