ADF Health Services provides integrated healthcare services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel across Australia. About the Role 

In this role you will work as a part of a multidisciplinary team within a health centre setting supporting the diverse mental health needs of military members. Referrals will come from a variety of sources; the member, medical team and Command, offering diversity in presentations and support requests. The support you will offer begins with initial intake and assessment with flexibility to accommodate presenting need. There is scope for the use of psychometrics and engagement in treatment that capitalises on your skills, interests and scope of practice. You will have autonomy to manage your caseload including oversight and case management of externally referred cases and the provision of internal treatment to Defence members. Additionally, your management of crisis presentations, risk assessment and risk management planning is supported within a multi-disciplinary team. 

This is a Permanent Part Time opportunity working 1x day per week (Mondays) with opportunity to increase days in future.

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • The highest levels of personal integrity and ethical behaviour. 
  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 
  • Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in the last 5 years in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting undertaking comprehensive mental health assessmentand delivering a range of evidence based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule. 
  • Recent participation in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities in accordance with AHPRA. 
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification. 
  • Knowledge of relevant State/Territory policies and procedures and national standards governing mental health practice (desirable). 
  • Knowledge of the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2023 (desirable). 

About Oakey Health Centre

Oakey Health Centre is located at the Army Aviation Centre (AAC) 3km outside Oakey.  It is the training area for Australian Army Aviation and is home to the 126 Squadron (Cougar helicopters) of the Republic of Singapore Air Force.  With approximately 500 members, the health centre provides primary medical, aviation medical, dental, nursing, physiotherapy, pharmaceutical and mental health services.  It is also an emergency response to AAC. Health centre staff may be required to work across Cabarlah & Oakey. The standard operating hours of the centre are generally 0700-1630 Monday – Friday (depending on role requirements will determine shift lengths).
