As a Defence Marine Support Services (DMSS) Trainee in the Inshore Operations team, you’ll contribute to the safe operation and maintenance of Defence vessels. This is your opportunity to build professional knowledge in operational and marine engineering, supported by experienced colleagues who value your growth and development.

 As a DMSS Trainee in the Inshore Operations team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Developing skills in marine operations and vessel safety
  • Participating in structured maritime training programs
  • Supporting day-to-day vessel operations and maintenance
  • Collaborating with site team members and stakeholders
  • Progressing through assigned tasks as your skills grow
  • Adhering to Serco and Defence safety standards

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Enthusiasm to pursue a maritime career with long-term goals
  • Ability to complete a Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment
  • A current NSW Boat Licence
  • Current First Aid Certificate
  • Commitment to undertake and complete maritime qualifications
  • A collaborative approach to working in team environments
  • Willingness to work flexibly across support locations
  • Eligibility to obtain Defence Baseline Security Clearance

Please note:

  • The successful applicant must commit to a two-year traineeship program which consists of 1 Shipboard Safety Skill Set and 4 Maritime Qualifications.
  • This position carries trust and responsibility. To support this, a comprehensive probity assessment, including a National Police Check, is a key part of the selection process for this role.
