About the Opportunity

The objective of the Psychological Health Services (PHS) is to provide assessment and intervention to prisoners for a broad range of presenting issues. There is a specific focus on suicide and self- harm risk assessment and crisis intervention. Psychological Health Services also provide other goal-directed, primarily brief interventions appropriate for a forensic population.This role includes paid professional registration, a professional development budget and paid CPD leave.

What you’ll be doing 

  • Providing Clinical supervision to a team of Psychologists and Social Workers.
  • Assisting the Psychological Health Services Manager in the development and delivery of strategic plans, key performance indicators and operational objectives.
  • Ensuring that services provided are clinically sound and defensible.
  • Contributing to the ongoing development of staff members by maintaining an effective supervision program and identifying / supporting staff training needs.
  • Providing direct psychological services to clients with complex clinical presentations, if required.

About you - your ideal skills & experience 

  • If applying as a psychologist: Hold general registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA), with a Master’s or Doctoral degree in Clinical, Counselling or Forensic Psychology desirable.
  • If applying as a Social Worker: Bachelor’s degree in social work; AND eligibility for registration with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
  • Have extensive experience (at least five years) in the provision of psychological assessment and intervention to adults experiencing psychological distress and/or functional impairments. Experience providing these services in a custodial environment.
  • An understanding of the process of clinical supervision. Experience providing clinical supervision to psychologists and/or social workers is desirable.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of, or the ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of, legislative provisions and modern correctional management practices and operations within a Prison, including the principles of best practice, sentence management, case management and unit management.
  • Hold strong leadership and management skills, with a focus on providing strategic direction which aligns with the broader prison business plan.

This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment, which includes a federal police check as an essential selection component for this role.
