About Us  

ADF Health Services provides integrated healthcare services to Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel across Australia.  As part of this contract, Serco, in partnership with Bupa, provide defence-ready clinical and support staff across 50+ on-base locations nationally, ensuring that ADF personnel have access to quality on-site medical care. To learn more please visit www.serco.com/ahsc  

About the Role 

This role supports the mental health and wellbeing of Australian Defence Force personnel by providing high-quality psychological services within a collaborative, multidisciplinary team. You’ll conduct intake and risk assessments, support walk-in presentations, and develop tailored case formulations and treatment plans. The position involves delivering evidence-based interventions and coordinating care with medical practitioners where medication or further intervention is required. You’ll work with structured clinical workflows, see approximately three to four clients per day, and have dedicated administrative time to manage records and case notes. The role also includes participating in quality assurance, governance, and Defence-mandated accreditation activities. Full induction and Defence-specific systems training are provided, with support from senior clinicians and experienced team members to guide you through military protocols and practices.. 

To be successful in this role, you will have: 

  • Current unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). 
  • Minimum 2 years post graduate experience in the last 5 years in mental health in a primary health or specialist mental health setting undertaking comprehensive mental health assessment and delivering a range of evidence based 'Focussed Psychological Strategies' as defined under the Medicare Schedule. 
  • Knowledge of relevant State/Territory policies and procedures and national standards governing mental health practice (desirable). 
  • Knowledge of the ADF Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2018-2023 (desirable).

About You 

You’re an experienced and adaptable psychologist with strong clinical skills and a deep commitment to delivering high-quality, person-centred care. Confident in conducting intake and risk assessments, mental status exams, and using tools like K10, PTSD, and alcohol/substance screenings, you bring sound judgement and empathy to every interaction. You deliver evidence-based treatment approaches such as CBT, ACT, Schema and EMDR, and coordinate care with precision. You thrive in fast-paced, multidisciplinary environments, communicate effectively, and stay grounded in quality, safety, and governance standards. With a solid understanding of Defence-specific needs—or the readiness to learn them—you’re proactive, collaborative, and focused on supporting the psychological health of ADF personnel.
