As a Medical Officer on the health services team at Acacia Correctional Centre, you’ll make a positive impact by promoting the rehabilitation and reintegration of inmates, ensure the safety and security of inmates and the community and provide a respectful environment to inmates. 

As a Medical Officer in the Health Services team, you’ll make a positive impact by:

  • Providing high-quality medical care within a multidisciplinary team
  • Refer inmates to external providers when care needs exceed the Centre’s capabilities, and review progress and outcomes promptly
  • Provide skilled health assessments, diagnosis and treatment services to inmates 
  • Educating inmates on health and lifestyle choices
  • Take responsibility for, or contribute to the clinical supervision of Nurse Practitioners/Clinical placements
  • Supporting patient reintegration into the community
  • Ensuring continuity of care for a diverse custodial population
  • Working closely with correctional staff to deliver integrated care

 

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • Unconditional and unrestricted registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA
  • Possess a degree in Medicine from a recognised tertiary institution
  • Be recognised as a Fellow or working towards the same with RACGP
  • Current Life Support certification/ALS 
  • Experience in Primary Care, Mental Health, Drug & Alcohol and Emergency care 
  • Ability to provide appropriate diagnosis and treatment
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to effectively communicate in both oral and written forms
  • Cultural awareness and the ability to work with diverse populations
