Join the team at Doltone House based at The Scots College (TSC) as an Apprentice Chef and become part of a dedicated catering team committed to delivering fresh, nutritious and high-quality meals to our boarding and day students, staff and the wider college community.

Are you passionate about food and ready to kickstart or continue your culinary career? Join our experienced catering team and gain hands-on experience working alongside skilled chefs in a supportive and professional environment.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Assist with basic food preparation, including chopping, peeling and portioning ingredients.
  • Support senior chefs in preparing and cooking nutritious, high-quality meals for boarding, day students and teachers.
  • Assist with meal service, ensuring food is presented to a high standard and served efficiently.
  • Set up, stock and maintain kitchen stations before, during and after meal service.
  • Assist with bulk food preparation for breakfast, lunch, dinner and school functions as required.
  • Follow recipes, portioning and dietary guidelines accurately to meet student and College requirements.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety and cleanliness in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Assist with receiving deliveries, stock rotation, inventory checks and the correct storage of food and supplies.

  • Flexibility to work across different areas and varied hours including weekends.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.

Your experience:

  • Basic knowledge of food preparation and cooking techniques, either through school, college or home cooking is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with kitchen hygiene, safety and food handling standards.
  • Experience in a team-oriented environment, showing ability to follow instructions and work collaboratively.
  • Interest in learning and developing culinary skills in a professional setting.
  • Experience handling basic kitchen tools and equipment is advantageous.
  • Any participation in culinary courses, workshops or competitions is a bonus.

Please note: This position operates during the school term only. During the term breaks, you will be based at another Doltone House venue in Sydney CBD.
