Doltone Hospitality Group has recently been appointed as the catering partner for The Scots College. We are looking a motivated and experienced Commis Chef to assist in leading our growing culinary team during this exciting new chapter. This role offers the opportunity to showcase your skills while delivering consistently high standards of quality, presentation and service across daily college dining, boarding meals and premium functions and events.

Your main responsibilities:

  • Assist with food preparation and cooking tasks across multiple kitchen sections.
  • Support senior chefs during event pre-production, service and pack-down.
  • Prepare ingredients to specification, including bulk prep for large-scale events.
  • Plating and presentation to ensure consistency and quality during service.
  • Follow recipes, portion controls and event timelines accurately.
  • Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and cleanliness at all times.
  • Assist with stock rotation, labelling and storage in line with food safety standards.
  • Set up and break down kitchen stations for on-site and off-site events.
  • Take direction from senior chefs and demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop skills.

Your attributes:

  • Eagerness to learn and further develop culinary skills under the guidance of senior chefs.
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills.
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure while maintaining attention to detail.
  • Calm and composed under pressure, particularly during large-scale or time-sensitive service
  • Strong work ethic with reliability and punctuality.

Your experience:

  • Minimum 1 year experience as a Commis Chef
  • Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain a Working With Children Check (cost covered by the organisation)
  • Certificate III or Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery
  • Strong knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and presentation across relevant sections.
  • Solid understanding of food safety, hygiene and HACCP standards.
  • Experience with stock control, ordering and minimising food waste.

Please note: This position operates during the school term only. There is no requirement to work during school holiday periods, which are unpaid, offering an excellent work–life balance aligned with the academic calendar.
