Start somewhere. Learn everything. See where it takes you.
Love food? Curious about what really goes on behind the scenes in a professional kitchen?
You don’t need to have your whole career figured out. You just need a willingness to learn, a great attitude and an interest in giving hospitality a go.
Scenic Hotel Group is looking for people interested in starting their journey as an Apprentice Chef.
This is your opportunity to get into a real hotel kitchen, learn alongside experienced chefs and earn while you learn. You’ll build practical skills through the New Zealand Apprenticeship in Cookery, supported by ServiceIQ, while working towards a nationally recognised New Zealand Certificate in Cookery.
What could your journey look like?
You’ll learn where it matters most: in the kitchen.
From food safety and kitchen basics through to stocks, sauces, meat, seafood, pastry, desserts and presentation, you’ll develop your skills through hands-on experience in a commercial kitchen.
And you won’t be doing it alone.
You’ll have experienced chefs around you to help you learn the ropes, plus the support of ServiceIQ throughout your apprenticeship. ServiceIQ's programme includes mentoring and progress support from a Sector Advisor, alongside workplace assessment.
Why choose an apprenticeship?

Build a career, not just a CV
Scenic Hotel Group’s proposed apprenticeship pathway includes opportunities for development and secondments to other Group locations, giving apprentices exposure to different kitchens and styles of service.

- are willing to get stuck in and learn from others
- can be part of a team
- bring energy, curiosity and a positive attitude
- are interested in turning a job into a genuine career.
No long chef CV required. Just bring your appetite to learn.
