About the Role

Join a dedicated and values-driven team supporting women and children to heal, recover and rebuild their lives following family and domestic violence.

The Karlup Service is a unique, holistic and wraparound support model operating from the Ruah Centre for Women and Children in Northbridge. The service provides safe accommodation and integrated recovery supports for women and children escaping family and domestic violence.

We are looking for two compassionate, dependable and proactive Casual Support Workers to join our Karlup Safe Accommodation team.

Reporting to the Team Lead, you will provide practical day-to-day support to women and children residing within the accommodation service. You will help create a safe, welcoming and respectful environment while supporting residents to develop confidence, independence and connection to recovery supports.

Key Responsibilities

• Support women and children living in safe accommodation following family and domestic violence
• Provide practical daily living support and promote independent living skills
• Assist with client arrivals, orientation and onboarding
• Facilitate resident meetings and encourage positive community engagement
• Maintain accurate client records, case notes and reporting requirements
• Build positive and professional relationships with residents
• Identify, respond to and escalate risks, incidents and wellbeing concerns as required
• Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary support teams
• Deliver services using trauma-informed, recovery-oriented and culturally safe practices
• Contribute to a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all residents

These are casual positions requiring availability across weekdays, weekends, public holidays and overnight sleep shifts

What we’re looking for

The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

• Must be female* due to the nature of the service and client group. This requirement is a genuine occupational qualification under Section 27 of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984
• Demonstrated experience in a similar support role, particularly working with women and children who have experienced family and domestic violence
• Sound understanding of family and domestic violence, trauma, crisis support and recovery
• Ability to build professional, respectful and trusting relationships with individuals with varying levels of need
• Experience working within trauma-informed and culturally informed frameworks
• Ability to work independently, remain calm under pressure and contribute positively within a team environment
• Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
• Confidence using Microsoft Office, databases and client reporting systems
• Demonstrated understanding of diversity, inclusion and cultural safety, including Aboriginal culture and culturally diverse communities
• Flexible availability to work a variety of shifts, including mornings, afternoons, overnight sleep shifts, weekends and public holidays

Highly Regarded

• Experience in family and domestic violence services
• Experience in community services, crisis accommodation, homelessness or residential support
• Certificate III, Certificate IV or higher qualification in Community Services, Mental Health, Social Work or a related field
• Experience supporting vulnerable women, children and families
