About the Role

This role is based in the Kambarang Place Women's Refuge. The Kambarang Place Women’s Refuge Project (the Project) aims to transfer the ownership and management of Kambarang Place Women’s Refuge (Kambarang) to a First Nations run women’s organisation. 

The role of the consultant will be to provide leadership and coordination for the development of a governance structure and a service model for the Kambarang Place Women’s Refuge which reflects the needs and interests of First Nations women. A core function of the consultancy will be to work closely and collaboratively with First Nations women with lived experience of FDV, as well as to consult with Aboriginal Elders and leaders in the community more broadly.

This role is funded for 16 hours per week over a fixed term 3 year period, concluding in April 2028.

What we’re looking for

The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

·  Demonstrated track record of successful completion of similar projects, particularly projects focussed on First Nations organisational governance and projects on service models for First Nations FDV services.

·      An understanding of organisational governance structures and service model design processes.

·      Deep understanding of trauma informed and cultural security principles and practice.

·      Capacity to conduct effective consultations with First Nations elders and leaders and particularly First Nations women with lived experience.

·      Sound knowledge and understanding of FDV, especially from a First Nations perspective.

·      Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·      Effective networking skills.

·      Ability to work to deadlines.

The ideal candidate will preferably identify as a First Nations woman.
