About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Payroll Officer with strong capabilities in end-to-end payroll processing, payroll compliance, award interpretation, EBA interpretation, salary packaging administration, superannuation, PAYG reporting, and payroll reconciliations. Experience using CHRIS21/iChris or similar payroll systems, working within medium to large organisations, and supporting finance administration, accounts payable, and audit preparation will be highly regarded. This full-time Payroll Officer position is offered on a maximum-term contract until 7 January 2028, covering a period of parental leave.
Key Responsibilities
Payroll Responsibilities
- Process fortnightly end-to-end payroll for all Ruah entities, including salary packaging, superannuation, taxation, timesheets, back pays, overpayments and PAYG reporting to the ATO.
- Prepare redundancy calculations, payroll estimates and employment-related payroll calculations as required.
- Complete payroll month-end and year-end processing, reconciliations and reporting.
- Maintain and administer payroll systems and interfaces with other Ruah systems.
- Liaise with salary packaging providers regarding payroll-related matters.
- Administer superannuation, taxation and PAYG obligations in line with legislative requirements.
- Generate regular and ad hoc payroll reports for management and business needs.
- Support payroll compliance through maintaining payroll policies, procedures, Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs), awards and legislative updates.
- Work closely with the People and Culture team regarding payroll changes, salary reviews and award increases.
- Process and maintain Notice of Employment (NOE) and Verification of Employment (VOE) requirements.
- Provide payroll support, guidance and advice to staff across the organisation.
- Manage payroll inboxes and respond to payroll enquiries in a timely manner.
Finance Support Duties
- Accurately process supplier and subcontractor invoices.
- Manage petty cash, corporate credit cards, staff reimbursements and income receipting.
- Perform bank reconciliations and ensure timely payment of creditors.
- Respond to finance enquiries and monitor finance inboxes.
- Assist with audit preparation and support continuous improvement of finance procedures and work instructions.
- Undertake general office administration and support duties as required.
What we're looking for
The successful applicant will demonstrate:
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Payroll or Bookkeeping, or significant progress towards a qualification, combined with at least 3 years' practical experience in payroll, bookkeeping or finance administration.
- Experience using computerised payroll and accounting systems, with experience in CHRIS21/iChris or similar payroll systems highly regarded.
- Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing within a medium to large organisation.
- Sound understanding of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, superannuation and compliance requirements.
- Experience interpreting modern awards and Enterprise Bargaining Agreements (EBAs).
- Strong analytical and numerical skills with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent organisational, communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines and maintain confidentiality.
