About the Role

The Disability Liaison will work closely with clients living with disability and their support network, where applicable to:

  • Understand client needs and work collaboratively with Ruah employees through a case management model to identify and refer clients to suitable services and provide information and resources.
  • Connect women and children with disability to the services that can support them to receive the financial supports they are entitled to and assist them to navigate those systems where required.
  • Advocate on behalf of clients to NDIS and Disability Support Services in the community where required.
  • Review client documentation for NDIS assessment on behalf of clients to ensure the necessary standard is met.
  • Provide advice, guidance and education to other Karlup Service staff working with clients living with disability to continuously improve capability and capacity to work effectively with the cohort.
  • Contribute to case management meetings relating to clients engaging with the Disability Liaison offering.
  • Maintain client files and records.
  • Monitor service delivery, identify issues and opportunities and contribute to continuous improvement of the Disability Liaison offering.
  • Ensure continuous communication with the Team Lead with updates of the service(s) provided and any issues that need to be escalated.

This is a fixed-term full-time position (6 months) with the possibility of extension.

What we’re looking for

The successful applicants will be required to meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum qualification Certificate IV in social work, community services, disability support or a related discipline and/or minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a similar role. 
  • Substantial experience within the disability support sector, including demonstrated knowledge of disability related support services within the community.
  • Demonstrated understanding of the intersection between disability and Mental Health, FDV and/or homelessness.
  • Capability to work effectively with a trauma and culturally informed model of service delivery.
  • Ability to work independently with a high level of reliability and contribute to the functioning of the team.
  • Effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of computer skills including Microsoft Office and client reporting system. 

The following criteria are considered desirable:

  • Previous experience in working effectively with women who have experienced family and domestic violence and a sound understanding of the dynamics of family and domestic violence and the social and cultural context in which it occurs.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of diversity and social inclusion- including gender, sexuality, disability, cultural, age, and linguistic diversity and Aboriginal culture.
