About the Role
Ruah is committed to supporting the Western Australia’s Peer workforce. We recognise the unique and invaluable skillset Peer workers bring to clients. Peer Recovery Workers provide an understanding of the experience of living with a mental health challenge and assist people to connect, feel validated, and supported to strive for the recovery outcomes they hope to achieve. Whether it is supporting clients in the hospital waiting room or in the community, we work as one Ruah with an aim to transform people’s lives. This is a casual position located at Safe Haven, part of the Mental Health and Wellness department at Ruah. Safe Haven provides a safe space for individuals experiencing emotional / mental health challenges or distress who do not require care from the Emergency Department but are seeking Peer support. The Peer Workers work alongside clinician(s) employed by Royal Perth to triage and welcome individuals to the space, provide peer interventions in one to one and group setting and create pathways for ongoing community based support. The service is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday with hours of work typically ranging between 2pm-8:30pm.
Who are we looking for?
It is expected that the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate the following:
- Lived experience of recovery from mental health and/or AOD challenges.
- Willingness and ability to work within and contribute to the vision, mission, core values and the three guiding principles of the organisation
- Willingness to identify as a person with lived experience working in a peer support role.
- An understanding of peer work in a community setting.
- Openness to continuous quality improvement and learning in this role.
- A great attitude and commitment to your team, colleagues, clients, and the organisation.
- Ability to engage with individuals within different levels of needs and build and maintain a professional relationship
- Ability to work independently and contribute to the functioning of the team.
- Ability to model positive behaviours, emotional maturity, coping skills and resilience.
- Good interpersonal and effective communication skills.
- Understanding of basic computer skills including Microsoft Office and client reporting system.
- Knowledge and understanding of diversity, gender and social inclusion, particularly Aboriginal culture.
Required Compliance Documents
- National Police Clearance Certificate
- International Police Clearance Certificate, if required
- Hospital required vaccinations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR), Varicella (Chickenpox), Hepatitis B and Pertussis/Diphtheria/Tetanus). The successful candidate will receive the hospital screening form containing all the details regarding vaccinations.
