Support Coordinator - Wongee Mia
About Ruah
Ruah is a leading values-driven employer in Western Australia’s community services sector. Our staff go boldly, not just supporting people in need, but working to end homelessness, end domestic violence and create opportunities for people struggling with poverty and mental health challenges.
Our professional team of operational and corporate services staff is backed by one of WA’s biggest Peer support workforces. Our staff reflect our commitment to diversity and inclusion, where difference is valued, celebrated and embraced.
By choosing to work with us, you are helping transform the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in our community.
About the Role
We have an opportunity for an employee to join the Housing and Homelessness department as part of the Wongee Mia team. The Wongee Mia service model focuses on ensuring people who are sleeping rough are linked into appropriate services to help them find and maintain suitable long-term accommodation. Wongee Mia works with multiple Aboriginal families who experience intergenerational homelessness and poverty with many of them sleeping rough or without stable accommodation for years.
The service aims to break the cycle of evictions resulting from overcrowding and anti-social behaviour which reflect the large number of family members who are homeless and who rely on those who are housed for shelter. The programs aim is to address homelessness in the wider family, identifying them as people in need rather than seeing them as a “problem”. This has developed into a close working relationship across a large, interconnected family (both housed and homeless) with strong connections to family Elders for advice and guidance.
This is a full time position on a maximum term contract, expiring 30 June 2026. Ruah employees are able to discuss the idea of a secondment opportunity, meaning you can return to your substantive position at the expiry of this employment contract.
