RMIT Online is hiring a Part-Time Student Success Advisor to deliver exceptional support for our students! This opportunity is like a rare gem—don't miss it! (And yes, we love a good cover letter, but we want something a little different. Read on below—it's your chance to stand out!)

Why work with us?

We’ve mastered the art of flexibility with a hybrid model that lets you work remotely while also catching up with your team in the Melbourne office on Tuesdays. Love continuous learning? We’ve got you covered with free Future Skills courses AND a development fund to boost your career while working in a dynamic, fun environment.

This part-time role (Monday–Thursday, or Monday–Friday with Thursdays off) is with our Student Success team—a friendly, diverse, and passionate group that genuinely care about students and each other. We’re not just looking for experience; we’re seeking great people with a heart for education.

Who is RMIT Online?

At RMIT Online, we deliver cutting-edge digital learning experiences with a sharp focus on the future of work. We collaborate with industry leaders and experts to create practical, real-world courses that help learners thrive in their careers. Our mission is to build a community of lifelong learners, equipping them with the skills and knowledge needed to stay ahead in an ever-evolving workforce.

We’re a passionate, nimble team of around 150, dedicated to making education more accessible, engaging, and innovative. And while we’re part of the broader RMIT family, we’re carving out our own space, far from being “just the online arm of the uni.” We embrace the power of technology and creativity to shape the future of education—and we have fun doing it!

About the role

Reporting to the Student Success Team Leader, you’ll be a key player in driving student retention and success by providing personalised support at every step of the student lifecycle. Whether it's coaching students through their transition into online study, guiding course enrolments, or helping at-risk students with tailored strategies, you’ll be their go-to person for support and advocacy.

You'll thrive on building rapport across various communication channels, especially over the phone. Your strong written and verbal communication skills, combined with a knack for empathy, will shine in this role. As a detail-oriented multitasker, you’ll tackle high-volume inquiries with precision and a warm touch.

You must hold a Working With Children Check (or be willing to apply for one).

Critical skills you'll bring to the table:

  • A deep well of empathy and resilience, especially during peak periods or challenging calls.
  • Strong attention to detail—you can juggle high volumes without missing a beat.
  • A talent for coaching others to success, and you thrive in a team that supports each other.
  • Experience with technology and an eagerness to learn systems like Salesforce, Slack, and CRM.

Why this role rocks:

You’ll interact with various teams across RMIT Online and RMIT University, gaining in-depth knowledge of higher education that will position you for career growth. We’re big on cross-team initiatives, so you’ll get plenty of opportunities to broaden your expertise. This role is a springboard for professional development—perfect for those who want to grow.

What a typical work week looks like:

Each morning starts with a team stand-up, where we align on priorities, share updates, and ensure the day's work is set up for success. The team is collaborative, supportive, and always ready to lend a hand when challenges arise. Throughout the day, you’ll spend time on student outreach, making around 40-50 calls during call campaigns to support and guide students through their learning journey. Whether it's checking in on progress, answering course-related questions, or assisting with extensions and enrolments, you’ll be the reassuring voice on the other end of the line.

We work closely together, making sure the phone lines are covered while also balancing email inquiries and administrative tasks. You’ll find plenty of opportunities to connect with colleagues, whether it’s through problem-solving Slack chats, quick huddles, or simply sharing a laugh. Tuesdays are our in-office day, and we make the most of it—catching up face-to-face, collaborating on student strategies, and enjoying coffee runs or team lunches.

The team culture is dynamic, fast-paced, and full of energy. We celebrate wins, support each other through challenges, and genuinely care about making a difference for our students. Every day brings variety, meaningful interactions, and the satisfaction of helping students succeed.

Our hybrid work vibe:

Your first week of onboarding will be spent in the Melbourne CBD office, but after that, it’s all about flexibility. While we don’t have set days beyond Tuesdays in-office, we still love catching up as a team and aligning around key events like our company-wide Showcase and All-Hands meetings. These sessions are packed with snacks, drinks, and plenty of fun! We also attend Connection Sprints quarterly—think two days of team building, collaboration, and energy.

Ready to apply?

Some might think cover letters are outdated, but we see them as a test of your attention to detail—a critical skill for this role! So, tell us:

  • Why you’re the perfect fit for this role and why you want to work with RMIT Online.
  • Tell us how you’ve contributed to a positive team culture.
  • And, describe your perfect Sunday afternoon!
