Gardener/Mower Operator

At Green by Nature, we look after the spaces that help our communities thrive. Our Manawatu team plays a vital role in keeping local parks, reserves, and public areas safe, tidy, and well maintained and we’re now looking for a team of casual staff to support with new project based work and seasonal peaks.

The sort of casual workers we are looking for would be for a hands-on, varied role across Gardening, Mowing, Tractor Operation, Small Plant Operators and more! This would be ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors and is happy to roll up their sleeves wherever support is needed.

About the role

These positions are cross-functional, supporting the team across projects, peak seasons as well as covering planned staff leave. You’ll work across multiple workstreams, gaining exposure to a wide range of tasks and equipment.

Your work will include:

• Gardening and horticulture duties, including planting, pruning, and general grounds maintenance
• Mower operations across parks, reserves, and open spaces
• Supporting response and repairs work, including reactive maintenance tasks
• Assisting across the wider team during busy periods and annual leave

No two days will look the same, and teamwork will be key to success in this role.

What we’re looking for

• A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to work across different duties
• Experience in gardening, horticulture, mowing, or outdoor maintenance (preferred but not essential)
• Comfort operating equipment or a willingness to learn
• Strong work ethic and pride in delivering quality outcomes for the community
• A full, clean driver licence with the ability to drive manual vehicles and tow trailers highly desirable
