Vegetation Control Operator

We’re looking for a practical, reliable team member to join our Marlborough Open Spaces team. This is a varied outdoor role with a strong focus on vegetation control and spraying, while also supporting the wider team with mowing, parks maintenance and playground inspections.

A key part of the role will be operating our Raymo remote-controlled mower, which is used for mowing steep, difficult and higher-risk areas. The successful applicant will also undertake routine playground inspections across our contract area.

Previous playground inspection experience or a RoSPA Playground Inspection qualification would be preferred, however this is not essential and training will be provided for the right person.

About the role:

• Undertaking vegetation control and spray operations, including chemical handling, weed identification and maintaining accurate spray records.
• Operating the Raymo remote-controlled mower and other plant and equipment.
• Carrying out routine playground inspections, identifying defects and hazards and completing the required inspection records.
• Supporting general parks and reserves maintenance including mowing, gardening, planting, pruning, edging, weed eating and other open-space activities.
• Ensuring plant, vehicles and equipment are operated safely and maintained to a high standard.
• Working safely around the public and undertaking traffic management where required.
• Reporting hazards, incidents, defects and other issues promptly.
• Assisting other members of the Open Spaces team as required.

About you:

We’re looking for someone who is practical, safety-conscious and comfortable working independently as well as being part of a small team. You’ll need good attention to detail, particularly around chemical application and playground inspections, and be willing to turn your hand to whatever needs doing.

•  Experience in vegetation control, spraying or parks/open-space maintenance.
• Appropriate agrichemical/spray qualifications or experience (Growsafe preferred).
• Good weed identification skills.
• Experience operating mowers and other grounds-maintenance equipment.
• RoSPA Playground Inspection qualification or playground inspection experience preferred but not essential – training can be provided.
• Confidence using electronic systems/apps to complete spray diaries, inspections and other records.
• A current driver licence.
• A strong commitment to health and safety.
• A positive, flexible attitude and willingness to help across the wider contract.

 Note: Experience with remote-controlled mowing equipment would be an advantage, but specific training on the Raymo will be provided.
