About the Centre

The Hawthorn Aquatic and Leisure Centre (HALC) is a vibrant, community-focused facility located in the heart of Hawthorn, Victoria. Operated by YMCA Victoria, HALC offers state-of-the-art amenities including a 50-metre outdoor heated pool, a 20-metre indoor warm water pool, a fully equipped 800-square-metre gym, and over 100 weekly group fitness classes. Additional features such as a sauna, on-site café, and crèche service make it a welcoming space for people of all ages and abilities. With a strong focus on health, wellbeing, and community engagement, HALC is a dynamic and inclusive environment—perfect for passionate individuals looking to make a meaningful impact through health and recreation.

About the Role

As an Infant and Preschool Swim Teacher at Hawthorn Aquatic & Leisure Centre, you will design and implement lesson plans that foster swimming skills in children from infancy through school age. You will combine stroke development with water safety to boost your students' confidence and abilities in the water. Your role will include:

  • Structure and design of lessons with appropriate activities that challenge and develop your students swimming and water safety ability
  • Recommending students for level progression as appropriate
  • Teaching and modeling effective problem solving skills and conflict resolution skills

This is a casual role with an hourly rate of $36.58 + super & Y Benefits.

About You

You will be passionate about inspiring and developing water safety and swimming skills in children and young people. Experience in other teaching or coaching roles is a bonus but not necessary. Personal attributes such as patience, respect, and enthusiasm will take you far as a Swim Teacher!

In this role you will unlock the power of all children to be inspired by swimming, creating lifelong opportunities. You will:

  • Demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm to teach children to swim
  • Provide excellent customer service to parents and students alike
  • Be motivated and committed to perform to a high standard
  • Be friendly, polite and approachable at all times
  • Display interest, enthusiasm, patience and respect to children and peers

Essential Qualifications

  • HLTAID009- Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
  • Accredited Teacher of Swimming and Water Safety (AUSTSWIM or equivalent)
  • Teacher of Infants and Preschool Aquatics Certificate

Other Desired Qualifications

  • HLTAID011-Provide First Aid
  • Teacher Developing Competitive Strokes or equivalent
  • Teacher of Aquatics - Access and Inclusion
  • Teacher of Adults
