As Assistant Category Manager – Recreational Sports, you’ll support the endtoend management of your category, building deep product knowledge while developing the analytical, stakeholder, and commercial skills that set future Category Managers apart. From sourcing through to store execution, you’ll gain handson exposure across the full product lifecycle—while helping shape ranges that inspire Australians to live an active life.
In this role, you’ll:
- Support category operations – help execute the annual category strategy, manage line planning, and contribute to pricing and promotions aligned to key events and product seasonality.
- Drive commercial outcomes – assist with delivering sales, profit, and trade partner support to budget, optimising promotional activities across all channels.
- Manage the range – support new product introductions, lifecycle management, packaging and pricing updates, and clearance strategies to maximise profitability.
- Ensure compliance & governance – maintain accurate reporting, support forecasting adjustments, and ensure all category products meet compliance and sustainability standards.
- Build strong relationships – partner with internal teams and external trade partners, negotiate effectively, and champion the category across the organisation.
What You’ll Bring
- Retail Buying Expertise – Demonstrated experience in a similar role is desired
- Operational Know-How – Strong understanding of inventory, product lifecycle, and category performance.
- Global Trade Exposure – Experience working with international/domestic trade partners; China sourcing/manufacturing highly regarded.
- Analytical Edge – Strong Excel and data analysis skills with the ability to translate insights into action.
- Influential Collaborator – Proven ability to influence and work across diverse stakeholders.
