PowerNet is seeking an experienced Operations Technology Engineer to join our team in Invercargill. This is a dynamic role supporting the design, implementation, and management of Operations Technology systems across our electricity networks.

About the Role

You’ll provide engineering and technical support across a range of systems including smart meter mesh networks, SCADA communications, OT network infrastructure, and radio telephone systems. You’ll be involved in fault analysis, network optimisation, hardware configuration, and project delivery — all while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and manage smart meter mesh networks and DA radios
  • Configure and troubleshoot OT network routing, firewalls, and traffic control
  • Manage SCADA communications (fibre, microwave, radio) and network security
  • Oversee Crosswire RT dispatch systems and vehicle radio setups
  • Support TCP/IP communications for new substations and RF projects
  • Maintain system documentation and train field staff on network operations
  • Liaise with customers and partner networks to resolve technical issues

What You’ll Bring

  • Tertiary qualification in IT, telecommunications, electrical/electronics, or computer science — or equivalent experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in IT/OT environments
  • Strong understanding of communication protocols, cyber security, and converging technologies
  • Hands-on experience with Cisco ISR/ASR routers, VLANs, QoS, OSPF/RIP, and WAN connectivity
  • Proficiency in Wireshark, network debugging, and scripting (Python, C#, Bash, Powershell)
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, git, Jira, and RF network design
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to build strong working relationships
