The Opportunity

Joining PowerNet as a Graduate Electrical Engineer is more than just a first job — it’s the foundation of a long-term engineering career in electricity distribution.

Based in our Invercargill office, we are seeking a Graduate Electrical Engineer to join our team in February 2027. This role is designed to support your development as you build technical capability, industry knowledge and professional confidence, while contributing to meaningful work that keeps our communities connected.

You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and project managers and gain exposure across a wide range of asset management, network planning and operational activities.

What You’ll Be Involved In

As a Graduate Electrical Engineer, you will contribute to and learn across areas such as:

  • Customer connection assessments and approvals
  • Neutral fault investigations and network problem-solving
  • Load flow and network studies
  • Disclosure data reviews, analysis and rectification
  • Data gathering, cleansing and reporting
  • Assisting with engineering, maintenance and capital projects
  • Supporting asset management planning and performance reporting
  • Developing knowledge of industry standards, regulations and best practice

  • Genuine interest in the electricity distribution industry
  • Strong analytical and data management skills, including exposure to coding
  • Clear, confident written and verbal communication
  • A positive, proactive approach to teamwork
  • Willingness to learn, adapt and take on new challenges
