Powering the future takes more than keeping the lights on. It takes people who can plan what is next.

This is more than an Outage Planning role; it is an opportunity to join a team at a pivotal time of growth and innovation. As PowerNet continues to invest in new technologies, modern control room capabilities, and the future of electricity network management, you will have the chance to be at the centre of that journey.

If you are passionate about the electricity industry, enjoy solving complex operational challenges, and want to learn from experienced industry experts, we would love to hear from you. This is a rewarding role best suited to those who enjoy being trusted with responsibility, can think critically when faced with competing priorities, and take pride in delivering quality outcomes.

Based in Invercargill, you will play a critical role in planning, coordinating, and managing major network outages while working alongside a skilled team responsible for the safe and reliable operation of our electricity networks. You will have influence, meaningful responsibility, and the opportunity to contribute to how our control room functions continue to evolve into the future.

What’s in it for you?

  • Competitive remuneration
  • 5 weeks' annual leave
  • Southern Cross health insurance
  • Life and income protection insurance
  • Professional development and career growth opportunities
  • Relocation assistance for the right candidate

About the role:

You will coordinate the planning and delivery of outages that enable critical work to take place across our electricity networks. Working alongside experienced System Controllers and industry experts, you will navigate complex operational challenges, balance network access with customer reliability, and play a hands-on role in the evolution of our control room functions as new technologies and ways of working are introduced. You will work Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm, providing consistency and work-life balance.

We are looking for a motivated and capable individual who can combine relevant technical knowledge with sound judgement and strong relationship-building skills. Ideally, you will have:

  • Experience within the electricity industry, ideally in electricity distribution network operations, planning, system control, or a related discipline
  • An understanding of electricity network equipment up to 66kV
  • The ability to assess information, identify risks and make sound operational decisions
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective working relationships
  • A proactive approach to learning and adapting to new technologies and systems
  • Sound IT capability and confidence working across multiple systems
  • A dedication to building credibility through your practical approach, sound judgement, and straightforward communication.
