Help tell the stories that keep our people, customers and communities connected.
At PowerNet, communication matters. From engaging with our customers and communities to supporting our people through change, this role plays an important part in how we connect, inform and build trust.
We're looking for a Communications Advisor who enjoys creating engaging content, bringing ideas to life across different channels, and building strong relationships across an organisation. Whether your background is in communications, content creation, engagement, journalism, marketing, or a related field, we'd love to hear from you.
About the Role
Reporting to the Communications Manager, you'll work across a broad range of internal and external communications activities, partnering with teams across the business to plan, create and deliver communications that support PowerNet's people, purpose and reputation. Ideally you will be based in Invercargill, but we’re open to considering one of our other locations across Southland and Otago for the right person.
You'll be involved in:
- Creating engaging written and visual content across digital and traditional channels
- Supporting internal communications, employee engagement and safety initiatives
- Developing communication and engagement plans for projects and campaigns
- Helping manage and improve our websites, social media, newsletters, and other channels
- Supporting stakeholder, community and media communications
- Contributing to emergency communications and response activities when required
No two days are the same. One day you may be finding a great employee story or developing content for social media, and the next you could be supporting a community event, improving a website page or helping communicate during a power outage.
About You
We're looking for someone who can build relationships, ask great questions and communicate with clarity and confidence. You might already be working in a communications or content creation role, or you may bring transferable skills from marketing, public relations, journalism, engagement, or a customer-focused professional environment.
Ideally, you'll bring:
- Strong writing skills and creative approach to developing content
- The ability to tailor content and choose suitable channels for different audiences
- Experience developing or contributing to communication plans
- Confidence using Microsoft 365 and digital communication channels
- Sound judgement, initiative and attention to detail
- A collaborative approach and willingness to learn and grow
- A tertiary qualification in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Relations or equivalent practical experience
We welcome different strengths, whether yours are in digital content and marketing, photography or video, internal communications, strategic communications, stakeholder engagement or campaign delivery. You don’t need to be an expert in everything – we’ll shape your portfolio around business needs and the complementary strengths of our team.
