Learning & Development Coach – PowerNet
We’re looking for a detail‑oriented and proactive Learning & Development Coach to support the delivery, coordination, and continuous improvement of PowerNet’s training and competency programmes. This role plays a vital part in helping our people develop and maintain the skills they need to work safely and effectively. While you’ll work closely with our Field Trade Coaches, this position is primarily office‑based, with a focus on programme administration, assessment oversight, learning content development for the Learning Management System, and guiding staff through their training pathways. At times, you will need to provide cover in the field for our Field Trade Coaches to ensure training delivery is maintained.
This role reports to the Training Team Leader, forming part of the wider People, Safety & Communication team, and works closely with leaders across the business to support a consistent approach to learning and development.
Whether you’re already experienced in learning and development, or you’re currently in a trade or technical role and want to apply your practical knowledge in a learning‑focused capacity, we’d love to hear from you. Ideally, we would like this role to be based in Invercargill; however, we’re open to other PowerNet depots for the right candidate.
About PowerNet
PowerNet is New Zealand’s fourth‑largest electricity network management company, delivering safe and reliable power to more than 77,000 customers across Southland, West Otago, and parts of Central Otago.
With over 300 staff located across our regional depots, we’re committed to providing safe, efficient, and reliable electricity while adding value for our stakeholders. Our work is driven by innovation, sustainability, and community, ensuring we deliver efficient energy solutions while supporting a brighter future for the regions we serve.
About the Role
As a Learning & Development Coach, you’ll help maintain and strengthen our training and assessment programmes so they remain aligned with business needs, industry standards, and operational requirements. You’ll work closely with the Field Training Team, leaders, and trainees to support capability development, ensure learning pathways are effective and well‑coordinated, and contribute to a consistent and high‑quality approach to training across the business.
You’ll support employees working through industry qualifications, monitor their progress, and help maintain the quality and consistency of our learning pathways. You’ll also work closely with leaders and others in the training team to identify development needs, refine training material, and ensure that our programmes are practical, effective, and aligned with day‑to‑day operations.
You don’t need to have formal coaching or assessing experience — if you’re passionate about developing others and have a desire to learn yourself, we’ll help you grow into the role.
What You’ll Bring
- NZ Electricity Supply Industry (ESI) Level 4, or equivalent experience as a Line Mechanic / Cable Jointer / Electrician with ESI exposure

- Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills
