Job no: XP899

Sustainability Project Engineer/Manager

Tauranga, Wellington or New Plymouth

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced technical project manager who is passionate about sustainability and has exceptional interpersonal skills to deliver meaningful change.

As Aotearoa’s second largest electricity and gas distributor, Powerco keeps the lights on and gas flowing to more than a million customers across Te Ika-a-Maui.

As our Sustainability Project Engineer/ Manager, you will introduce, validate, and embed sustainability initiatives in the business, utilsing your specialist technical knowledge and demonstrated project engineering/management skills, through highly effective internal and external engagement.

Reporting to the Head of Sustainability, you’ll be responsible for leading projects to assist with our business sustainability targets, including our climate change (TCFD) programme, our offsetting initiative and specific trials to overcome sustainability barriers. Your engineering or technical background will assist you with integrating new ideas whilst your understanding of the broader picture of sustainability will help to avoid maladaptive outcomes.

It’s an exciting time to work in the energy industry. Powerco has a diverse range of projects as Aotearoa moves to a low-emissions future. You’ll work closely with internal and external stakeholders and provide thought leadership on sustainability.

Skills & Experience

It’s not the be all and end all, but we’d be stoked if you have:

  • Strong background or qualification in sustainability or transition engineering
  • Experience in an engineering role, technical project management or project engineering
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining effective internal and external relationships
  • Project management experience
  • Proven research and analytical ability with good problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge and/or experience of network utilities and the low carbon transition

Benefits

  • Loads of flexibility. We embrace hybrid working so if you’d like to work a few days a week from home – that’s fine by us
  • All the usual stuff, but way better – 4% KiwiSaver, ability to buy extra leave, paid volunteer days, great parental leave entitlements, free life and medical insurance – I know, right?!
  • Excellent opportunities for professional growth, including an annual programme for technical and personal development
  • Working with an amazing, supportive, and fun team – even if we do say so ourselves…

Applications close: Friday 29 July 2022

Our ability to get the best out of people is what sets Powerco apart. We realise that candidates – especially from underrepresented and neurodiverse backgrounds – often won’t apply for roles unless they meet ALL the criteria. We encourage anyone who shares our passion for connecting communities to apply for any role that aligns to your strengths and interests. We will provide a safe space where you can bring your whole self to work and thrive.
