Powerco is looking for a Connections & Low Voltage (LV) Planning Engineer to join our Network Development team.  The LV network is where customers feel electricity the most — at their homes, businesses, farms, and communities. As customer expectations and technology evolve, so must our network. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our LV systems are resilient, flexible, and future‑ready.

The role

As a Connections & LV Planning Engineer, you’ll be responsible for providing strategic, data‑driven planning for Powerco’s low voltage network.

Your work will enable safe, reliable, and future‑focused customer connections and ensure our LV network is ready for the demand and generation of tomorrow.

Key things you’ll be doing:

  • Developing scheduled growth and investment plans using GridSight and other planning tools
  • Analysing LV monitoring and power quality data to support optimisation and targeted upgrades
  • Working closely with planning, asset, operations, and customer delivery teams
  • Supporting connection assessments for customers, developers, and major projects
  • Ensuring planning practices align with electricity regulations and industry standards
  • Contributing to future use cases for LV visibility and emerging technologies (DER, HEMS, solar, batteries, EV charging)

What you’ll bring

  • A BE in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent) and 5+ years’ NZ electricity industry experience
  • Strong background in network planning or power systems engineering
  • Familiarity with tools such as DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSS®SINCAL, PSS/E, PSCAD
  • Ability to interpret and use LV and power quality data to guide decisions
  • A proactive approach, great communication skills, and a collaborative mindset
  • Programming skills (Python, VBA, C++) are a bonus
  • CPEng or working toward it is an advantage
