Trainee Network Controller

About the role

We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our team and play a key role in supporting operations. You will be instrumental in analysing fault data to enhance our response strategies while providing crucial assistance to Network Controllers and Senior Network Controllers.

This role offers the opportunity to work towards gaining competency to become a Network Controller, contributing to real-time operating activities, and ensuring the application of Powerco's network operating policies and procedures.

About you

This position requires an individual with a background in electrical engineering or a related field, possessing a beneficial familiarity with high-voltage network operations, and demonstrating strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Fault Data Analysis - Analyse fault data for effective responses and optimised solutions.
  • Competency Development - Progress towards becoming a Network Controller or Senior Network Controller.
  • Real-time Network Operation - Support real-time operation of the HV network.
  • Switching Instructions - Compile and verify high-voltage switching instructions.
  • Policy Adherence - Ensure daily compliance with Powerco's network operating policies.
  • Complex Situation Analysis - Analyse and resolve complex electrical network situations
  • Record Maintenance - Maintain accurate records for network outages, incidents, and events.

It would ideal if you have:

  • Level 5 Electrical Registration
  • Exceptional technical skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to be confident and decisive in demanding situations (e.g., storms, unplanned outages).
  • Highly competent with technology.
  • Considerable experience in electricity distribution.
  • Familiarity with protection systems, SCADA, and Outage Management systems.
