Generation & Transmission Integration Engineer

📍 New Plymouth, Tauranga, Palmerston North or Wellington

🕐 Permanent - Full-time

Powering Aotearoa’s Energy Future

Are you interested in integrating new generation, enabling renewable energy, and shaping how Aotearoa's electricity system evolves? We’re looking for a skilled Generation & Transmission Integration Engineer to join our Network Development team and play a key role in the future of the grid.

Why this role matters

New Zealand is undergoing a major transformation in how we generate, store, and use electricity. From large‑scale renewables to distributed energy resources (DERs) and battery energy storage systems (BESS), the transition requires deep technical insight and smart planning.

In this role, you’ll help ensure that new generation connects safely, reliably, and cost‑effectively to our network—while supporting the long‑term resilience and sustainability of the bulk supply system.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll contribute your expertise across a wide range of planning and integration work, including:

  • Leading strategic planning for bulk electricity supply and transmission interfaces.
  • Working closely with Transpower, regulators, councils, customers, and internal engineering teams.
  • Performing power flow, dynamic and stability studies using tools such as PSCAD, PSSÂźSINCAL, PSSÂźNETOMAC, PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
  • Developing technical strategies to integrate generation, DERs and non‑network solutions (including flexibility services and BESS).
  • Supporting pre‑ and post‑commissioning activities to ensure compliance and high‑quality outcomes.
  • Monitoring regulatory changes and ensuring the successful implementation of new distributed generation requirements.
  • Providing technical leadership—mentoring colleagues and contributing as a subject matter expert in power systems and DER integration.

About you

You’ll bring strong electrical engineering expertise with a BE (or equivalent) and over five years experience in power systems, including steady-state, dynamic and EMT studies.  Ideally, you will be familiar with New Zealand electricity regulation, have scripting capability and keen to work towards CPEng (or already hold this). Together with technical knowledge, you will be confident and comfortable in mentoring others, building strong stakeholder relationships, collaborating across teams and communicating clearly and proactively.

Why join Powerco?

  • Be at the forefront of LV network planning innovation using cutting‑edge tools like GridSight
  • Help shape investment decisions that enable electrification, EV uptake, solar, batteries, and home energy management systems
  • Work alongside expert engineers, data specialists, planners, and operational teams
  • Make a direct impact on the security, sustainability, and affordability of electricity for communities across Aotearoa
  • A culture grounded in collaboration, continuous improvement and working better together

📅 Applications close: Friday 16 January 2026

Our ability to get the best out of people is what sets Powerco apart. We realise that candidates – especially from underrepresented and neurodiverse backgrounds – often won’t apply for roles unless they meet ALL the criteria. We encourage anyone who shares our passion for connecting communities to apply for any role that aligns to your strengths and interests. We will provide a safe space where you can bring your whole self to work and thrive.
