Summer Intern – Policy, Regulation and Markets
📍 Wellington
We’re looking for a sharp, curious Policy or Economics student (ideally in your 3rd or 4th year) to join Powerco over summer and get stuck into some real, meaningful work in the regulatory space.
You’ll be part of the Policy, Regulation and Markets team, helping us respond to consultation papers from the Commerce Commission and Electricity Authority, supporting our advocacy work, and contributing to big-picture thinking on the future of energy in Aotearoa. There’s also a key piece of mahi coming up - the DPP4 reset (which sets the gas price/quality path for the next few years), and we’d love your help in shaping a fair and future-focused outcome for our customers.
About you
- Studying Policy, Economics, or something similar (3rd or 4th year)
- Enjoy making sense of complex issues and writing clearly about them
- Can think strategically and isn’t afraid to ask questions
- Works well with others and brings a bit of initiative to the table
What's in it for you?
- Hands-on experience where you get to apply what you’ve learnt in real-life situations and play a part in creating practical solutions.
- Supportive people who’ll back your learning and development
- Great office environment, team culture & social activities
- A pathway that could lead to a position in a future Grad programme
About us
At Powerco, our purpose is to connect communities, and that’s at the heart of everything we do. We're passionate about mahi that keeps over 900,000 customers connected and supports the energy choices people want to make. As Aotearoa transitions to a low-carbon electricity system and moves toward a net-zero 2050, we’re proud to play a role in making that happen.
If you’re keen to gain experience that makes a difference and want to work with a team that values fresh thinking and good conversations, we’d love to hear from you. Apply now!
📅 Applications close: Sunday 17 August 2025
Our ability to get the best out of people is what sets Powerco apart. We realise that candidates – especially from underrepresented and neurodiverse backgrounds – often won’t apply for roles unless they meet ALL the criteria. We encourage anyone who shares our passion for connecting communities to apply for any role that aligns to your strengths and interests. We will provide a safe space where you can bring your whole self to work and thrive.
