About Powerco

The energy industry is on the verge of a radical transformation. Here at Powerco, we're busy keeping the lights on and gas flowing to more than 430,000 homes, businesses and organisations across the North Island. If you're an engineering professional looking for your next challenge, it's time to join the fast-paced, exciting company that powers NZ's largest electricity distribution network.    Our people work on some pretty cool projects, often industry leading and are proud to be here

About the role

Due to rapid growth on our network we are looking for Planning Engineers to join our Network Development team based in Tauranga.

Our Planning Engineers are crucial to the future capability of Powerco's network. We are looking for Engineers with strengths in critical thinking, who understand cost / risk tradeoffs and thrive on analysing and solving complex problems.  You are naturally curious, and relish scoping innovative network solutions and enjoy working with delivery teams to see these projects through to completion. The role is diverse in nature, engaging with different stakeholders with different needs, so we will fully utilise your interpersonal and relationship building skills and experience.

About you

With two roles available, we are open minded about the skills and experience Engineers may offer. If we had to be specific, our vision would be to attract Senior Planning Engineers with solid and credible experience who are looking to utilise their skills and knowledge on exciting projects which are future focused. That said, this role may also suit a candidate with related industry experience (such as from prior design or protection roles) who is looking for a move to develop their breadth of expertise and abilities. We can provide options for both experienced Engineers and developing Engineers. At Powerco we focus on growing talent and provide opportunities to develop through a technical or leadership pathway. We believe, we are better together.

The difference you’ll make

  • Influencing budgets and investment whilst also providing cost effective solutions for our customers across the network to make a real difference.
  • Being a key contributor to a team which plan the expansion of the network to service the current and future needs of our customers – exciting times ahead!
  • Providing analysis to determine the future needs of the network - working smarter
  • Identifying smart solutions that enhance the network
  • Be actively involved in building relationships with key stakeholders including councils, business groups and customers

Skills & Experience

It’s not the be all and end all, but we’d be stoked if you have:

  • a BE or NZCE qualification in related electrical engineering area
  • relevant experience in a network planning / network studies or similar role
  • excellent communication skills
  • analytical modelling skills
  • risk management and decision-making skills

Our investment in you:

  • Loads of flexibility – we believe in a mix between home and office
  • All the usual stuff, but way better – 4% Kiwi Saver, ability to buy extra leave, paid volunteer days, free fruit in the office, amazing Parental Leave entitlements, free Life and Medical Insurance – the list goes on
  • As much development as you can handle!

Life is good here at Powerco. You'll join a fun, tight-knit group of dedicated, passionate people and play a key role in a company that's a major contributor to the community. In addition to competitive salary offerings, health and wellness packages, you’ll also get the satisfaction of playing an important part in helping us deliver an essential service to our communities.

So now's the time to join Powerco. Please get in touch, and let's talk about your new career with us.

Applications close: Sunday 22 May 2022

Our ability to get the best out of people is what sets Powerco apart. We realise that candidates – especially from underrepresented and neurodiverse backgrounds – often won’t apply for roles unless they meet ALL the criteria. We encourage anyone who shares our passion for connecting communities to apply for any role that aligns to your strengths and interests. We will provide a safe space where you can bring your whole self to work and thrive.

If you would benefit from support or adjustments in order to participate equitably in the recruitment process, please phone 0800 769372 or email kiaora@powerco.co.nz
