Electricity Switching Coordinator

New Plymouth​

We have a vacancy in our Network Operations Centre

You will be a member of the team who look after the real time operation of Powerco’s High Voltage electricity networks

The position provides operational support for the day to day application of Powerco's Electricity network operating policies and procedures to maintain Safety, Protection of plant, Network reliability and maintenance of records.

The role provides a pathway towards becoming a Network Coordinator (operator) in our Control Room. Training will be provided.

You will be responsible for:

  • Compiling, checking and authorising planned operating sequences and switching instructions for access to the high voltage network
  • Working in a Control Room environment coordinating High Voltage Operation, Outage Management and Access to the Powerco electricity networks​
  • Ensuring Powerco maintain quality of supply during outages and network switching
  • Preparing for large electricity projects by development of switching and commissioning schedules that ensure safe and timely delivery of those projects

The ideal candidate will have these attributes:

  • Appropriate Electrical Engineering or Trade qualification (Level 5 or equivalent)
  • Knowledge of network operations, isolation, access and permit procedures in the high voltage distribution industry
  • The ability to work in a technical position using various complex software applications
  • Knowledge of Safety Principles and the SMEI (Safety Manual Electricity Industry)
  • Proven problem-solving ability
  • Ability to work in a high performing team environment with Self-Management and Self-Motivation skills
