Commercial Manager
📍 Wellington
🕐 Permanent - Full-time
About the role
Here at Powerco, we're busy keeping the lights on and gas flowing to more than 430,000 homes, businesses, and organisations across the North Island. Behind every switch turned on and every hot shower is a team making sure our customers are looked after – and right now, we’re looking for a strategic, customer-focused Commercial Manager to join that team.
This is your opportunity to lead and influence how we work with retailers and contractors to create seamless service delivery and customer interactions. You’ll be the voice of the mass market customer inside Powerco – championing their needs, driving improvements, and shaping future services that balance commercial smarts with genuine customer care.
We’re after someone who sees the big picture, thinks strategically, and can bring people together around great ideas. If you're commercially savvy, know how to manage relationships, and thrive in a collaborative environment – this could be the role for you.
In this role, you will get to:
- Champion our tikanga – culture, identity, and purpose
- Build strong, trusted relationships with energy retailers
- Own and lead our Default Distributor Agreements (DDAs) and Use-of-System Agreements (UOSAs)
- Lead contract and performance management that puts customers first
- Develop and manage the Customer Contribution Framework – making it fair, transparent, and effective
- Share insights from customers to help shape our policies, investments, and network innovations
- Drive continuous improvement in the way we deliver to mass market customers
What we’re looking for:
We’re on the hunt for a commercial and customer-minded superstar. Someone who can balance business outcomes with what’s best for our customers and communities. If you can think strategically, solve problems creatively, and communicate clearly across all levels – you’ll thrive in this role.
Skills and experience we’d love to see:
- Commercial or financial modelling know-how (especially contribution frameworks or pricing models)
- Strong relationship management and stakeholder engagement skills
- A strategic mindset that sees opportunities and connects the dots
- Empathy and adaptability – you understand people and bring them with you
- Experience in the energy industry would be a bonus – but it’s not a dealbreaker
What’s in it for you?
- Flexibility to support your work/life balance
- A great team culture that values collaboration, inclusion, and support
- Health and wellness perks – regular checks, flu shots, fruit in the office
- Medical insurance and a range of wellbeing benefits
All applications must include a cover letter – tell us what makes you the perfect fit for this role, this team, and our customers. We want to hear your story.
