Senior Substation Design Engineer

New Plymouth, Tauranga, Palmerston North or Wellington

We are offering a Senior Design Engineer for substations the chance to have challenging work as well as maintaining a work life balance. The Senior Design Engineer for substations provides conceptual and detailed designs for Powerco, offers specialist technical support across the business and guides and influences standard primary and secondary designs. You will also have a good understanding of the operation and maintenance of electrical protection and control systems. If you have an analytical mind, like to impart your knowledge to other people and enjoy problem solving this role in our substation Design Team may be for you. 

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop conceptual and detailed designs for substation projects;
  • Review external conceptual and detailed designs for substation projects;
  • Investigation and analysis substation related incidents;
  • Develop Powerco’s substation and network policies and standards;
  • Assist with preparing substation development and renewal plans for Powerco; and
  • Provide technical support to other Powerco teams and Service Providers.

It is preferable that candidates have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Engineering majoring in Power Systems;
  • Experience in substation primary and secondary system designs;
  • Thorough understanding of substation equipment arrangements and installation methods;  
  • Experience in electricity protection systems design;
  • Experience in electricity protection primary and secondary testing; and
  • Excellent problem solving skills.
