This is an opportunity to step into a leadership position, work side-by-side with a highly respected Principal of the firm.

About the Firm

This well-established Newcastle-based firm has a strong national referral network and specialises in Property Investment & Development, Commercial Law, Wills & Estates and Family Law.

Property already represents 40% of firm revenue and continues to grow.

The Principal is commercially astute, down-to-earth and highly respected in his field. He operates an open-door policy and is now looking for someone to stand beside him — not behind him.

The Opportunity

The Senior Property and Commercial Solicitor will:

  • Manage sophisticated property investment and development matters for developer and investor clients
  • Handle associated commercial matters connected to property transactions
  • Advise on trust and company structures for property acquisitions
  • Draft and negotiate private lending arrangements
  • Prepare and advise on joint venture agreements
  • Provide advice on commercial leasing for investment properties
  • Structure transactions for developers and property investors
  • Manage complex property transactions involving companies, trusts and SMSFs
  • Draft and advise on option agreements and off-the-plan matters

This role requires someone who understands the commercial mechanics behind property development and investment — not just the transaction itself.

You will lead and grow the Property division, working directly with sophisticated developers, investors and SME clients who expect commercially strategic advice.

Who This Role Will Suit

This opportunity may appeal to:

  • A senior property lawyer ready to lead a division
  • A solicitor experienced in property-driven structuring and developer work
  • A sole practitioner who enjoys complex property matters but is tired of handling administration alone
  • An ambitious lawyer seeking genuine partnership — not just a title
  • A Sydney-based solicitor looking for a sea or tree change, without compromising on quality or complexity of work

You must have:

  • Minimum 5+ years PAE
  • Proven experience in commercial property transactions and developer work
  • Strong knowledge of trusts, joint ventures and private lending arrangements
  • Confidence dealing with complex entity structures
  • Experience with commercial leasing linked to property investment
  • A track record of achieving KPIs and budgets
  • A desire to grow a team and head up a division

Exposure to strata or planning law is advantageous (or willingness to develop this expertise).

Why Newcastle?

Newcastle offers the lifestyle balance many Sydney lawyers are seeking — coastal living, strong development activity, a growing business community and improved work-life balance — while still working on sophisticated, high-value property matters.

This is an opportunity to maintain career momentum while improving lifestyle.

What’s On Offer

  • Clear succession plan and genuine pathway to partnership
  • Profit share opportunity
  • Competitive salary based on experience and leadership capability
  • Modern Newcastle offices
  • LexisNexis systems and strong administrative support
  • CPD paid and supported
  • Direct collaboration with an experienced Accredited Specialist
  • Open-door, supportive leadership environment

This is an opportunity to build something meaningful — not just bill hours.
