Our Security team are the friendly faces welcoming you onto the Parliamentary Precinct and play an integral role within Parliament. Our Security Group is collectively responsible for providing 24 hours per day, 7 days per week security services to members of Parliament, staff, contractors, stakeholders, visitors, and customers who work within and visit New Zealand's Parliament. The Security Group strive to be known for their professionalism and to make Parliament an open, accessible, efficient, safe, and secure place.

Mō te tūnga | About the role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and proactive Parliamentary Control Room Operator to join our team. This role is responsible for providing 24/7 security and customer services, utilising advanced security technology systems to ensure the Parliamentary Precincts remain open, accessible, efficient, safe, and secure.

  • Operate Security Systems: Continuously monitor and operate CCTV, access control, video management systems, EWIS & VESDA systems, intercoms, bollards, car parks, dock ways, and roller garage doors.
  • Respond to Incidents: Swiftly respond to alarm activations, breaches, unauthorised entries, and duress alarm notifications for Members of Parliament and staff.
  • Customer Service: Provide exceptional customer-focused service to all stakeholders, including prompt responses to phone calls, intercoms, emails, and radio communications.
  • Dispatch Security Personnel: Proactively dispatch Parliamentary Security Officers as needed.
  • Maintain Logs and Reports: Keep accurate and detailed control room logs and report incidents using the online incident reporting system.
  • Leadership: Occasionally act as Security Lead – Operations on an acting basis.

This is a full-time permanent post working the below structure: 

2x Early Shift (0645-1630), 2x Late Shift (1245-2300), 2x Night Shift (2245-0700), 4 days off.

Please note: To be considered for this position you must be a New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident and able to obtain and maintain a NZ Government National Security clearance at SECRET level. Click here to check your eligibility.

The appointing base salary for this role is $63,140 - $69,248 per annum (remuneration band extends beyond the appointing salary to account for tenure progression), with relevant shift allowances.
