About the role | Mō te tūnga:

Hon Chris Bishop MP is looking for a Communications Coordinator to join their team in the Hutt South electorate for 10-20 hours per week. You’ll be working as a key part of the MP’s team to ensure the smooth delivery of their communications plan. This may include writing newsletters, arranging advertising in local newspapers and online, creating digital content, and drafting correspondence. You’ll join a high-performing team and be able to assist with events and other activities in the office.

Working as a core part of the team, you’ll step into an environment that is unique, exciting, and rewarding. This position offers real variety and plays a vital role in supporting Aotearoa New Zealand’s democracy.

What you will bring to the role | Tō kete:

This position needs someone who is solutions orientated, respectful, accountable, and confident in building strong relationships, as you’ll be engaging with a wide array of stakeholders. It would be great if you have a communications background, but this isn’t essential.

Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa:

  • Support the implementation of the communications plan
  • Support and administer media (including social media) content for the MP
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the MP’s role by providing administrative support where required (diary management, travel, and finance support)
  • Actively monitor all communication channels, including the MP’s social media for issues of interest/concern
  • Respond to correspondence and emails, and escalate correspondence where required

The pay band for the role starts at $67,600 FTE per annum and appointments will be based on skills and experience. All employees who work for MPs are employed on an ‘events-based’ agreement, with your employment linked to your MP. This role is based in the Hutt South Electorate offices for 10-20 hours per week.
