MP Support Advisor | Kaitohutohu Ratonga Tautoko MP for Carl Bates MP

About the role | Mō te tūnga:

As an MP Support Advisor, you’ll be working primarily in the Hāwera Electorate office for 20-25 hours per week. You’ll provide community engagement and constituent services for Carl Bates MP. The role also administers the day-to-day operation of the office to ensure all necessary functions are covered. 

You’ll work closely with the Whanganui Electorate office team and will regularly connect via Teams and in person.

This is a wide and varied position and at times you’ll need to support the Member at community-based events and other times attend these meetings. The ability to build strong and trusted relationships is key to being successful in this role.

Responsibilities | Ngā haepapa:

  • Liaise between the Member and the community, representing the Member where required.
  • Administer office processes, procedures and standards to enable the smooth running of the office(s).
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local groups and networks, to understand and respond to their needs.
  • Receive and investigate constituents’ concerns and issues, meeting with constituents for further information where required.
  • Advocate for constituents at Ministerial level, with Government agencies, e.g. Work & Income, Immigration NZ, and with other business and community organisations where required.

The pay band for the role starts at $72,100 per annum and appointments will be based on skills and experience. All employees who work for MPs are employed on an ‘events based’ agreement, with your employment linked to your MP. This role is based at the Hāwera office for 20-25 hours per week.
