We’re seeking a Researcher to join our Research Services Team till the end of the year. In this role, you’ll contribute towards providing high-quality, impartial research and information that directly supports Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, and the public.

This position is offered as a fixed-term agreement with the possibility for it to be taken up as a secondment opportunity, providing flexibility for candidates seeking professional growth or new challenges within Parliament.

Te Tīma | The Team:

The Research Services Team within the Corporate Services Group plays a key role in supporting Members of Parliament, parliamentary staff, and the public with trusted and impartial research, information, and analysis. Our mission is to ensure that Parliament has the accurate and timely information it needs to make informed decisions.

As part of a collaborative and dedicated team, you will contribute to a culture that values Integrity, Manaakitanga, Accountability, Whanaungatanga, and Empowerment, all while ensuring that the research services provided are aligned with the needs of our customers and the goals of the Parliamentary Service.

Mō te Tūnga | About the Role:

As a Researcher, you will provide high-quality, relevant, and timely research and information across a broad range of topics, helping to inform parliamentary decisions and processes. You will collaborate closely with colleagues to deliver high quality research, analysis and information that meets the needs of our customers.

Some key responsibilities will include:

  • Answering a wide range of research requests, including compiling collections of media articles on topics relevant to parliament and compiling contact lists.
  • Contributing to complex and in-depth research as required.
  • Communicating research findings clearly and effectively, ensuring they are accessible and well-presented.
  • Contributing to a strong customer service ethos by working collaboratively with other members of the Research Services Team.
  • Developing and maintaining your knowledge of Parliament and its processes.
  • Supporting outreach and engagement activities to promote research services within Parliament.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A tertiary qualification.
  • A strong customer service ethic, with the ability to respond to a wide range of inquiries in a professional, clear, and timely manner.
  • An understanding of the New Zealand parliamentary environment, or a willingness to learn.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to present complex information in an accessible and understandable way.
  •  Strong research skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to foster positive relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, and the wider parliamentary community.
  • The ability to embrace change and contribute to innovation in research and service delivery.

Please note: These roles are permanent positions with a starting salary range of $72,374 – $79,907 per annum. The range may extend beyond this for candidates with exceptional skills, experience, and calibre. Selected candidates may be asked to complete a pre-interview phone screen.
